Después del huracán María, una familia celebra el cumpleaños de su Abuela como una forma de liberar sus deseos y frustraciones.

Después de una gira completamente vendida en Puerto Rico, Caribe Bestial se dirige a NY por tiempo limitado en el Centro de Arte y Performance Julia de Burgos. Esta producción cuenta con el respaldo de Hispanic Federation y es parte de Puerto Rico: Resiliency, Strength, Unity, un evento conmemorativo marcando el primer aniversario del Huracán María.
Caribe Bestial sigue a la familia Guerrero-Fuerte mientras se reúnen para celebrar el cumpleaños de Abuela María, interpretada por la legendaria actriz puertorriqueña Luz Maria Rondon, después del Huracan.

El colapso económico en Puerto Rico ha causado la emigración de un
gran cantidad de artistas puertorriqueños. Pero sigue habiendo un grupo pequeño que trabaja incansablemente para contribuir a través de proyectos artísticos colaborativos y auto-gestionados. Reuní a doce de estos artistas para investigar las realidades y deformaciones de la familia caribeña, y Caribe Bestial es el resultado.

Con la inspiración de los artistas visuales Bárbara Díaz Tapia y Javi Vecino Cintrón, los actores crearon la pieza bajo la dirección de Christian a través de un proceso de diseño y dramaturgia. Caribe Bestial se estrenó bajo el programa de Residencia Artística del Centro de Bellas Artes Luis a Ferré en San Juan, Puerto Rico en febrero de 2018.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, a family celebrates their Abuela’s birthday as a way to release their wishes and frustrations. The Guerrero-Fuertes remind us that acceptance is the basis of love and that no matter what confrontations we face, family always prevails.

After a completely sold out tour in Puerto Rico, Caribe Bestial ran in NYC for a limited time at the Julia de Burgos Art and Performance Center. This production had the support of the Hispanic Federation and was part of Puerto Rico: Resiliency, Strength, Unity, a commemorative event marking the first anniversary of Hurricane Maria.

Following the initiative of director Christian Nieves, a group of twelve artists was summoned to investigate the realities and deformations of the Caribbean family. Caribe Bestial celebrates the life and career of renowned actress and comedian Luz María Rondón, who has over 65 years of theater experience, in addition to José Eugenio Hernández, Cristina Sesto, José Luis Gutiérrez, Bryan Villarini, Laura Isabel Cabrera, Joksan Ramos and Melquiades Soto.

With inspiration pulled from visual artists Bárbara Díaz Tapia and Javi Vecino Cintrón, these actors created the piece under Christian’s directorial eye through a process of devising and dramaturgy. Caribe Bestial then premiered under the Artististic Residency program of the Luis a Ferré Fine Arts Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico in February 2018.
